FUE
FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles from a donor area and transplanting them to thinning regions. This minimally invasive process leaves no linear scars and allows for a natural-looking hairline. You can typically return to light activities within a few days, with full results visible in about one year.
FUE explained
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) moves your own hair, one tiny graft at a time, to rebuild a natural hairline without a linear scar.
What is FUE?
FUE is a hair-transplant method where the surgeon removes individual follicular units, groups of 1 to 4 hairs, directly from your donor area with a very small punch, then places them where hair has thinned. Because grafts are taken one by one, FUE doesn't leave a long scar and the donor area heals discreetly.
Is it right for me?
FUE suits most adults with stable hair loss and a healthy donor area, including people who like to wear their hair short. At your consultation the surgeon checks your donor density and the area to cover, and tells you honestly whether FUE, or another method, fits your case.
How it's done, step by step
- 1
Consultation and hairline design: the surgeon assesses your scalp and agrees a natural hairline and graft number with you.
- 2
Preparation: the donor area is trimmed and local anaesthetic is applied so the procedure stays comfortable.
- 3
Extraction: individual grafts are harvested one by one from the donor area with a micro-punch.
- 4
Channel creation and placement: the surgeon opens fine channels at the right angle and density and places each graft.
- 5
Finish: the area is cleaned and you receive your aftercare instructions.
What you'll experience
It's a single-day, walk-in/walk-out procedure, usually lasting several hours depending on the number of grafts. You're awake and relaxed throughout. Many people listen to music or watch something. Your consultant stays in contact in your language before, during and after.
Recovery and results timeline
Expect small scabs for about 7 to 14 days, and to avoid strenuous exercise, swimming and direct sun for a short period. The transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks, which is normal, then new growth begins. Most people notice early results from around 3 to 4 months, with the fuller outcome over roughly a year.
