What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty (ear reshaping) corrects ears that stick out or are misshapen by reshaping the cartilage and, if needed, setting the ears closer to the head. It creates a more natural, balanced position rather than a pinned look.

Is it right for me?

It suits adults, and is also commonly done for older children by arrangement, who are self-conscious about prominent or asymmetric ears. Your surgeon examines the ear cartilage and explains the technique and expected change.

How it's done, step by step

    Consultation & assessment of ear shape and position.

    Anaesthetic: local anaesthetic with sedation, or general, decided with your surgeon.

    Reshaping: the cartilage is reshaped through an incision behind the ear.

    Repositioning & closure: the ear is set in a natural position and the discreet incision is closed.

    A supportive head dressing is applied.

What you'll experience

It's usually a day procedure with a pre-op check. Your consultant coordinates your stay and aftercare in your language.

Recovery & results timeline

You'll wear a supportive dressing or headband for a period as guided. Swelling and tenderness settle over a couple of weeks, with the discreet scar hidden behind the ear and the new shape visible as healing completes.
